You know, some of my coworkers and I were discussing what we'd do if things came down to some sort of Martial Law. We are contractually obligated to A) defend the constitution and B) obey the orders of the President and officers above us. So what would we do if the President ordered us to do something that was a threat to the constitution, like attack our own citizens? The general consensus was that the constitution comes first.
I can see why you'd say this because I think my point wasn't properly articulated. Essentially, our conscience would come first. We boiled it down to there being two sides, the Government (the President) vs. the People (the Constitution). We decided that we would never side with a government that was so violently opposed to the people.

I'm sorry. It was in fact my point that wasn't properly articulated. My response was not meant to be critical or disparaging. I knew what you meant and I apologize for not elaborating further to show that. You have my utmost respect and support. Again, I offer my sincere apologies.
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice."
So yes, the constitution comes first in the statement, though there's isn't really anything that says which one takes precedence. This is pretty much a debate over semantics and syntax, tho. I agree with your statement.

Then you are WAY smarter than the people we have screening at airports!
