I wonder how they're controlling all the energy they get. That's been as big an issue as finding a cheap way to get fusion to occur. Still it has promise, and I'm excited.
One thing that pissed me off is where they pawn off Helium as entirely benign. It is an inert gas and doesn't react with anything, but it still has greenhouse properties. Worse yet there is no natural cycle that removes helium from our atmosphere, even on geologic scales. So what we pump up there would stay there forever.
Still a better option than fossils tho. I just don't like being lied to.
I know, right?! If they pump helium into the atmosphere, future generations will all speak in high pitched, squeaky voices.Worse yet, our earth will float up and away through the universe!
Perhaps to some degree, but I don't think it would be wise to build an entire power economy around a single natural resource (regardless of which end it goes in/comes out on). We already tried that with oil and the consequences of our actions did not become apparent until many years later. People often overlook hydroelectric power. We can harness the currents, waves, rivers, and more. That, in combination with solar and wind energy, could power the planet with zero emissions of any kind forever.
oh ho! so there is a mechanism for helium release. Didn't think about it venting into space. Looks like it has a residence time of about 2 million years. Capturing it for industrial purposes sounds pretty clever, if we're going to emit it we might as well use it for something rather than just calling it waste.
sorry to break this to you, but there are no "energy overlords"; it's just a bunch of greedy women & men who feel the need to grab a little more cuz Paul Allen still has a bigger yacht than they do.
Good shit nonetheless, I'll have to ask one of our energy analysts about it.

Also worth mentioning.
(I'm entirely saying that there's a secondary market?)

Sadly it's really that simple, pathetic actually.
For example have you ever watched a Senate Rollcall?
