This is why the military shouldn't investigate accusations of war crimes - the military commits them. Of course some shithead is going to try and justify this - if he doesn't, his chance of moving up the ladder disappears. We expect UN investigators to witness the war crimes being committed in Syria, but imagine how our military would respond if other nations expected that of us... We need someone besides the military dealing with this. It's going to happen no matter what, but maybe it will make members of the military be a little more cautious before they open fire on a group of unarmed civilians based on a grainy, poor resolution video feed. It gets more complicated when it comes to charging the individual soldiers, since you can't blame a 19 year old kid for fucking up in the middle of a war-zone, but at the least those hiding and lying about this shit should face the same consequences as those who would hide or lie about a murderer back in the States.

Yeah well I mean define war crimes, because no matter what situation the US finds itself in, they will find a way to spin the truth and fuck with the facts just enough to make the skeptics apathetic and their followers feel righteous. The military labels any adult male killed in a drone strike as an enemy insurgent unless there is some evidence that is presented to suggest otherwise. And the military knows damn well that no villagers in Afghanistan are going to be able to do that. I mean entire fucking wedding parties have been blown away with US bombs. Shits fucked up but I think much of it has to do with a culture that dehumanizes the enemy and only places value on the lives of Americans, instead of life in general. War is ugly, and unnecessary war is damn repulsive.
