I hope that's the frequency for JJJ.

wheelsfalloff's picture

Nah, its GOLD 104, classic rock etc...
I was hanging out for the workday weekday back-to-back Toto triple play
Swollen Goods's picture

Pants on fire. I checked the Qld frequency chart.
wheelsfalloff's picture

Yeah, only I live in VIC :p
JJJ was good..about 20 years ago, maybe im getting old....probably have to preset Radio National soon :/
Swollen Goods's picture

JJJ is better than anything on offer out there right now.

I'm 41 and I still enjoy it.

wheelsfalloff's picture

We have some pretty good community radio here...problem with that is its so diverse, the shit music is REALLY shit...so Im constantly flipping between them
104 seems to cause the lest arguments/most singalongs
I listened to JJJ a lot when I lived out in the Tassie sticks...but I cant stand 99% of the Aussie hiphop that flooded it in the early 2000s..that and the loss of free will the programmers used to have

Why'd you quit?
Got anything else lined up?

wheelsfalloff's picture

When you do this kinda work, you need to trust yr crew, unfortunately my boss was a fuckwit who compromised my safety one too many times.
It wasn't an easy decision as I don't have anything lined up, but it got to the point where I didn't feel like i had a choice.

Cletus's picture

Please elaborate. I just read an article recently about deaths as a result of safety compromises in this line of work.
wheelsfalloff's picture

You got a link to that article?
Working in front of live antennas, jobs being rushed through so the boss could fuck off early, No site inductions, working without protection in hazardous fumes from rooftop cooling towers ect to name a few. But he dealbreaker relates to the last pic, thats me, not long after it was taken I was left up there while the rest of my crew were in the carpark across the road. First rule of rigging, you do not work alone.
Ive been rigging for over 10 years, and you develop bonds with yr workmates...even if you dont really like them as a person,(lotta assholes in this game) you still let them know that you have their back if anything goes wrong and vice versa. If that bond isn't there...you have no choice but to get the fuck out.
The agency, who were so concerned about safety ("safety safety safety " I was told on my job interview) seemed concerned on the
day I quit, yet pretty much hung up on me the day after when I asked for my retainer that was promised last month, saying I waived my right to it by quitting (a month after it was due?).
Here's the real kicker, the main Safety governing body here does not deal with the company I was contracted to as it has a seperate Government Safety organisation, which in turn does not deal with contractors! So any complaints, incidents are falling through the cracks and on deaf ears as the agencies would be stupid to bite the hand that feeds them.
This is a major telco company, one of the biggest in Australia, making up to a million dollars a day off just one of these towers...seems they are teflon when it comes to accountaability for thier workers. There is currently a massive 4g rollout nationwide, and they cant keep  up with demand, so when you throw handfuls of inexperienced, untrained people through agencies at these jobs...somethings going to give, bigtime.

Cletus's picture

Sounds similar to what the article I read was about, except that this takes place here in the U.S.

Here is another one I found that may interest you.
wheelsfalloff's picture

Cheers for that mate, yeah same circumstances here.
Fuck until reading those I was beginning to feel like the lone voice of a butthurt disgruntled telco worker conspiracy theorist blathering at the sentient nonplussed night sky of SG.
...mebbe so, but at least I know I made the right decision :)
dw's picture

Wait,,,are you saying that a privately held corporations held it's profits in higher regard then the safety of one of it's employee's?!?!? The hell you say!

Good, I would constantly shit my pants working at that height.
laa laa's picture

i am amazed at how absolutely shaky that hoist truck looks
wheelsfalloff's picture

This was one of the better ones, I've been in some horrible machines that are little more than poorly-maintained carny rides, glitchy hydraulics that will slam you into the tower if yr not careful.
It was such a nice day we decided to take it up to full extent (60m). only when we got up there I realised that the driver had "short-rigged" the stabilisers...but apparently these modern machines know their limits better that you and wouldn't have let us go that far if it was not stable.
The bucket does move and sway however...so much, at the end of the day you have "sea legs"
