Dude had a huge influence over modern concept art style and approach. I remember a lot of his paintings being in OMNI magazines when I was a little kid and always thought they were fucking cool. Now, a lot the professional concept artists who grew up with his stuff feel the same way if the price of his out-of-print books are any indication.

Oh hell yea. Though I remember being really upset that I couldn't identify what sort of fuselage he's holding in his right hand. I don't know why that bothered me so much when I was around 8 or 9, but that frustration lay dormant until I just saw this again. Is that thing even supposed to be a fuselage? Also, what the fuck is the scale of that woman? Christ, if the perspective is to be believed, she could knock those helis and that wackadoo jet right out of the air. They must have given him a list of things that had to be on the poster, and he had to do the best he could.

That was Vincent Di Fate. They had somewhat similar styles. Berkey has done at least one cover for a Charles Sheffield book, The Ganymede Club.

'Bout ten, twelve years back I ran through all the RI libraries' Sheffield content. I should dig up that list and see if anything new was added since then/before he died.

OMNI and the covers of Fred Pohl's Gateway novels is where I first ran into Berkey. Hooked as a kid (along with Whelan, Barlowe, Frazetta and DiFate).
