Finished top swap

I was able to finish the top swap on my car. about 24 hours of labor in one weekend. Ported heads, ported lower intake, headers with a 3in DP with no cat to 2.5 inch back. OEM resonator, Dynomax Super Turbo Mufflers. The blower still has the stock 3.8 pulley on it, not sure if I will go smaller right away. I would like to drop to a 3.4 with a dyno tune. My next purchase is going to be a wide band o2 and a mechanical boost gauge as ZZPerformance sent my computer back to use a GT MAP so it wont read boost electronically. The heads I bought from an L67 had two bent valves it was no big deal. We cleaned the top of the pistons to try and reduce hot spots/detonation. Drove it to work all week no issues took it to Cruisin' OC 2012 Saturday and killed an SRT4 on 14psi on the way home. Not too bad. I'd love to know how much power my car is making..

Headers and whats left of a laptop I threw across my house. after cat knocked it off the couch and broke the screen
Annnnnnnnnnddd tits for your time

I admire your  desire to wrench on your car, i really do but... why a Grand Prix? that is really one of the worst cars i've ever heard of to start modding... not only is it a giant pile of crap mechanically, it handles like crap, it's FWD, and it'll never be all that fast no matter what you do... it's like the white trash version of modding a camry solara coupe...
next time just take the money you were going to spend on it and either light it on fire, or send it to me...
...and bragging about "killing" a neon in a street race.. ugh...  take. it. to. a. track. dumbfuck.

I need better tires before I take it to a track end of story there.
The GM 3.8 is one of the most reliable engines GM has ever put out, it's been out for a looonng time. Remember the Buick Regal T type? Yeah 3.8 Turbo. Or my daily driver 1993 Old's 88 with almost 300k on the clock 3.8 still on factory head gaskets. Yes the torque steer is an issue in FWD cars but if you know how to drive its not.
I have a passion for all cars. Not just mine. I can respect anyone that will take an average car and make it fast or make it a show car. As long as you have the passion to dick around with your car, and not be an asshole with it that person deserves all of the respect. I spend most of my time hanging out with the LS Engine groups and they respect that fact that my 4 door sedan keeps up with a lightly modded GTO. Maybe you should introduce yourself to the Ford Taurus SHO from the late 80's and up. They were monsters and could keep with Corvettes when they first came out.

I respect anyone's car interests, as long as those interests don't endanger other people, and street racing not only endangers other people, it makes you look like a douchebag, and it makes the entire automotive and motorsports community look like douchebags. If your tires aren't good enough for the track, then why are you street racing on them? I just hope that _when_ you crash you don't kill anyone but yourself.

I'm fairly well versed in the SHOs, my folks even owned a first generation one a long time ago, though not sure what that has to do with your car, other then it being FWD...
Yes, the GM 3800 series engine has been around for a while and is fairly reliable, woo-hoo (i know that's cause for celebration when you drive a pontiac)...  Do you think they went out of business because they made such great cars?

Spook's picture

Pontiac is GM so in all reality they didn't go out of business they just discontinued the badge change over. Even though I deplore street racing it's nice to know that you can modify any car regardless of motor size for speed on interstates and long stretches of highway in which you can just open them up without causing much trouble. I'd love to toss a turbo on my little piss ass saturn 1.9L sohc just to see what it would do to fuel economy and power. But thats what makes great mechanics and modder's the knowledge to do something and the ability to do it on something you don't expect. It's like those Nomad's chevy put out you wouldn't think they went fast until you stomped the pedal and they broke loose. The guy's trying to make a car he can respectably drive and you're busting his balls about it? Seriously man people like you are the reason they use restrictor plates and top out programs on modern cars these days to prevent people from having a bit of responsible fun.

I have BF Goodrich G-Force tires with good tread but they are 4 years old and really hard now. I cant get anything off the line. I only drive fast on one road where it is open field on each side for three miles, and TBH the last years of Pontiac all the cars were rebadged Holdens. What I guess no one gets is that I like this car because it's a sleeper. I am not going to get picked out of a crowd by the police on the highway and people wont expect me to pass them aggressively when they piss me off, that's all. I don't want to show it off.. I just wanted to post some fucking OC on this god damn website to give it something other then fucking regurgitated TUMBLR or reddit pictures.

Funny you should mention the SHO's according to a local sheriff's Lt. they are suppose to start making them again for police force use.

1st:   Your opening logic is that you masturbate to the Pontiac gods at night because the "3800" is "the most reliable engine GM ever made."

I'm not sure what you know about cars, but performance and reliability (your above stated reason for wanking on about Pontiacs) share an inverse relationship....
As performance goes UP   -   reliability goes DOWN       Therefore: Your argument is invalid...

Yay, lets race an engine design thats ~20 years old!     Yeah, they never designed anything BETTER since then.     Might as well start drift racing in a '92 Toyota Corolla then, that block has been around for decades too!

2nd:   I love how you address the fact that "if you know how to drive" torque steer isn't an issue.
If you knew how to "drive" you might have driven PAST the Pontiac dealership that morning.

3rd:   You have a passion for all car's 'eh?
I wager CASH, that if i showed you a picture of my car, you would never be able to recognize it.  (its stock)

4th:   You respect people that do stupid shit with "average" cars.
I bet you always wanted a Dodge Neon with scissor (Lambo) doors when you were growing up?

5th:  "As long as you have the passion to dick around with your car, and not be an asshole with it that person deserves all of the respect."
Your "upgrading" a GRAND AM.    In my vocabulary, that's, "being an asshole with it."

etc.   Why the fuck would "LS engine groups" let a V6 poser bother them, let alone "RESPECT" you....
I wonder what kinda nicknames they have for when your not  around?
What's a GTO?  they stopped making them in the 70's, do you mean a HOLDEN?

I had a stick SHO for a little under a year in highschool (97), it could barely beat my neighbors V6 Trans Am.
That torque steer was a beast though, mebbe if I knew how to drive better it wouldn't have sucked so bad..

I've heard some REEEEEEALY faggot shit spewed on teh interwebs but this comes REAL close to taking the cake:

                                                                        >Read before you start shit talking or you get shut down<

That is a true cherry on top after listening to you Hank Hill on about your swag-ass Grand Prix.

Man, if I had a dollar for every time I said, "sweet-ass Grand Prix man!"    I would still be broke!
E.23.20's picture

iknowright... my '94 camry wagon be, all like, paid for and shit, 200K miles on that fugly lovely. And some folks all like, "cars go. engine parts good." Then, i'ma like, "shiiiitttt."

But seriously, you're neat.
Spook's picture

Here they were rebadged GTO's but oversea's say in Australia they were badged Monero's I believe. Those are what I think he is refering to. The 3800 series was a decent set up for the last two or three decades they made them, considering they only called them 3800's because they rounded them up from the actual size of 3.725 I believe but my memory is seriously sketchy when it comes to those kinds of numbers. I had a Olds Delta '88 Royal Brougham edition that with that specific motor in it, the only issue those motors had was when the harmonic balancers on them went  and it fucked up the timing and distributorless ignition tower. But the car got up and went as stock as it was, if you or any of the other assholes on here actually picked up a wrench and did anything you'd give the guy credit for attempting to do something that's not normally done.

1. I masturbate to all cars that are respectable
- Performance = less reliablity TRUE
- The engine has been redesigned many many times they killed it off for the 3.6 and 3.9 which are more effecient
- Old school toyotas make awesome drift cars

2. I bought my car from a Subaru dealer :3

3. I'd love to see your car

4. Lambo doors are fucking stupid. Lambos dont even have them anymore

5. My car is not a Grand Am its a Grand Prix. A Grand Am GT comes with a 3.4 and can be brought to low 12's on 7 psi of boost stable on stick internals. Swapping the 3400 engine is a big thing in the older Cavalier Z24 crowd. Some guy on V6Z24.com is running high 9's But I get your point there.

etc. because they arent stuck up cocks like you and just like to hang out. 3 of those LS guys helped with my top swap and yes
- I do catch shit from them but nothing with mallice intent, just jokes.
- Three brands for that car US, AUS, EUR. all different all the same car

I didn't come here to use cause issues or shit talk like you, but I will assume you have nothing better to do.

I like Pontiac cars and Pontiac car accessories

I'd like to know what a 14psi SRT4 is, is that an SRT-4 at 6000ft above sea-level or some kid running lean trying to melt his pistons?  Probably a Stage 0 car running low 14's, obviously didn't know what he was doing as only idiots race on the street.

If you're ever ready to take it to the track let me know, my little neon likes to get out now and then and Button-willow is just up the road.

acidcrashdburnd's picture

SRT4 or and SRT4 swap? I love those cars. Two guys around me have SRT4 swaps into the two door espressos, sleeping giants.
